Woljeongsa Temple

It is located in the forest of the valley east of Mt. Odaesan, and it is composed of 60 temples and 8 monasteries made into one large temple. Woljeongsa Temple was established by Monk Ja Jang (590~658). At Woljeongsa Temple, there is the Seongbo Museum where you can view the Buddhist culture of the Goryeo Dynasty, the Octagon shaped 9-story pagoda, also called as the Sari-pagoda (relic pagoda), and the Stone Seated Buddha figure. Also there is the Jeokmyeolbogung where Buddha's bones are said to be preserved, and the large sermon hall Jeokgwangjeon Pavilion. Usually in a Jeokgwangjeon Pavilion the Vairocana figure is enshrined, but it is interesting that the Sakyamuni figure is enshrined at Jeokgwangjeon Pavilion at Woljeong temple.

Jinkwansa Temple

Very ancient, time-honored Jinkwansa Temple, situated on the outskirts of the northwestern part of Seoul, was built in 1011 during the Goryeo Dynasty. Master Jinkwan saved the life of a prince in his peril against political enemies. After the prince became a king Hyunjong, he had? a big temple built out of gratitude for the Master on this site. Since then, this temple played its role as a national temple and many kings used to come to this temple to pray for the nation’s welfare and porsperity. A venerable Biguni(female Buddhist monk), Jinkwan, restored it to its present form from the mid-1960’s and it became a temple for nuns. Due to the combination of ancient atmosphere and beautiful scenery surrounded by mountains in a National Park near Seoul.

Hwagyesa Temple

Hwagye Temple lies within the city limits and yet it keeps an air of tranquility being surrounded by scenic landscape and luxuriant forest. Yet it was not until recently that the temple became well-known to the public. As Seon (Zen) monk Hyeongak, who authored, Manhaeng (travelling practice) - From Harvard to Hwagye Temple,became well-known, Hwagye Temple, where he practiced, sprang into fame. It became known as the temple where a foreign monk resides, so strange and unfamiliar at that time. In particular, monk Hyeongak opened Seoul International Zen Center in Hwagye Temple, to enable foreign practitioners to practice Seon meditation while staying at a Korean temple.

Jeondeungsa Temple

The Great Hero Jeweled Hall, the representative structure of Jeondeung Temple is considered a valuable cultural heritage demonstrating the architectural style of the mid-Joseon Dynasty. What has caused this hall to become widely known is the Nude Woman Statues propping up the roof of the hall.It is about 66km away from Seoul city center.
